Budget Airline Oasis HK Launches Vancouver Route

May 5th, 2009

After emerging as the world's pioneering long-haul, low-cost airline with the launch of its Hong Kong-London route last October, Oasis Hong Kong has launched today its new long-haul route.
Oasis' 12-hour, non-stop flight from Hong Kong International Airport will bring travelers to Vancouver six days a week.
To service their passengers going to Canada, Oasis Hong Kong has purchased three additional Boeing 747-400s from All Nippon Airways (ANA), and have expanded their in-flight resources by 200 cockpit and cabin crew members.
Stephen Miller, chief executive officer for Oasis Hong Kong Airlines said in the airline's press release: "Vancouver is very appealing to Hong Kong people as both a business and leisure destination, and there is a high demand for flights to Vancouver out of Hong Kong. We are pleased to be able to respond to our consumer's needs by offering this super value service."
The great value offered by Oasis is easily judged by the price of their economy class return tickets, starting at as little as HK3,980 (US509) and HK18,000 (2,303) return for business class.
Ticket prices are available via their website and are nearly 50 percent cheaper than that offered by Oasis' direct competitor.
In addition, for at least one year, the airline also guarantees that it will provide 10 percent of economy class seats on every flight at HK1,990 (255) one way.
The Vancouver route is expected to follow the success story of Oasis' first international destination London, with tickets starting at HK1,000 (128) one way. To date, the budget airline has flown more than 100,000 passengers on that route.
Miller said the response from customers on the London flights had been overwhelmingly positive.
"We've had tremendous feedback from our customers. The people of Hong Kong have really embraced us, for whom we are grateful," he said.
"The compliments we have received, especially from our business travelers, have given us the encouragement to now extend the same superior product and service experience to the much awaited Vancouver route."
Now in operation for eight months, Oasis Hong Kong is quickly gaining nods from global travelers by providing premium services that are unusual in budget airlines, such as online check-in, free hot meals and personal in-flight entertainment.
On the Internet, fans call Oasis Hong Kong "a very solid airline with much better service than short-haul budget airlines", praise its "fantastic value" and "friendly cabin crew", while a travel blog dubs it "the best travel newcomer of 2006".
Over the next five years and with a projected 25 aircraft, Oasis Hong Kong plans to fly to more leading aviation hubs in Europe and North America, including Chicago and San Francisco in the United States, as well as Milan and Berlin.
It seems the world is becoming a bit more accessible in an amazingly affordable way.

Brooklyn, New York Opens Its First Cruise Ship Port

May 5th, 2009

In 2003, New York announced the grand opening of a new alternative port for cruise lines. Because ports in Florida were becoming more and more crowded, additional docking facilities in interesting cities on the Eastern Seaboard were needed to provide cruise lines with a new home port. The port has been wildly popular. So much so that another has been added in nearby Brooklyn.

The Red Hook terminal in a neighborhood in Brooklyn opened in April 2006 and welcomed its first permanent resident, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 (formerly docked in Manhattan). Located on the Buttermilk Channel, the Brooklyn terminal gave the first increase in New York cruise ship pier capacity in over 30 years. With the likes of Cunard and Princess cruise lines as eager residents, the terminal has already become a success. Most other major cruise lines have also assigned vessels to sail from Brooklyn.

Princess Cruise lines will launch the Crown Princess from the Brooklyn dock in June 2006 for a Caribbean cruise. From June to October, Princess will offer numerous Caribbean tours, including calls on ports in popular destinations such as the Virgin Islands, Grand Turk and Jamaica. Star Princess will begin cruises from Brooklyn in October 2006 visiting ports up and down the New England and Canadian seacoast.

But Brooklyn? It doesn't seem like the most exciting location for a cruise ship port. On the contrary. While not normally publicized as a vibrant city with plenty to do, Brooklyn offers cruisers an opportunity to spend a few days in New York before or after their tour.

Very similar to Manhattan, Brooklyn offers a trendy nightlife as well as diverse cultures and eclectic cuisine. Bars, clubs and restaurants line the streets, offering a tremendous variety of options for visitors and locals alike.

If culture is your thing, Chinatown is always a wonderful experience. In addition, Flatbush offers the largest Caribbean population in the United States. In either place, you'll delight in the authentic sights, sounds and tastes on every corner.

With spectacular views of many popular attractions, including the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty, the Red Hook terminal also offers exciting options for sightseers. However, New York City is just a short cab ride away and opens a virtual treasure trove of attractions, shows, museums and affairs.

Overall, Brooklyn offers greater value (with lower rates on hotels) and a central location, making it a wonderful choice for both vacationers and the cruise lines. If New York is closer for you than Florida, or if you've been longing to visit the Big Apple, consider booking your next cruise from the Red Hook terminal in Brooklyn. Your travel agent will have a complete listing of which cruise lines sail from Red Hook and the destinations available.

Booking Crewed Sailing Charters - What You Need To Know

May 5th, 2009

Crewed sailing charters are available to take you to sights you only dreamed about. These charters include staying on a yacht for a week at a time and dropping anchor in exotic ports of call. While at sea, you don't need to lift a finger nor do you need to know how to handle as sailing yacht. This is what you hire the crew for - so you can sit back and relax. When you make the decision to book one of the many crewed sailing charters available, you have to decide where you want to go and what you want to see and do.

The fee you pay for crewed sailing charters may be different depending on the part of the world where you want to charter a sailing yacht. In North America, the cost includes the rent of the yacht, the fee for the captain and the crew, as well as insurance that you pay just in case of an accident. In addition to this cost, if you charter a crewed sailing yacht the cost of the provisions, berthing fees and fuel are extras and you do need to pay them when you arrive back at the starting port. In the Mediterranean, the cost of a crewed sailing charter also includes fuel, berthing charges and water that you need to have on board the yacht.

When you start looking at the types of charter yachts, you can choose either motor or sail crewed charters. If you choose crewed sailing charters, you will experience the thrill of sailing slowly along the ocean. This is often the choice of couples that want to experience the romance of the sea. The number of people that will be going with you on the crewed sailing yacht will also determine the type of boat you need to charter. A crewed yacht is generally available for charter for a week, but you can also book these charters on a daily basis. The length of time you choose for the charter will determine the number of places that you get to visit.

When you make up your budget for crewed yacht charters, you have to include the cost of return airfare to the destination where you will board the sailing yacht. Look at what the charter company includes in its costs and then make allowances for food, fuel, anchorage and of course shopping and entertainment in the various places you dock. Then when you total this list you can determine whether or not a crewed sailing yacht is within your budget. Usually people plan for this type of vacation several years in advance and save up the money they will need to book the charter.

Once you make the booking for crewed yacht charters, the company will send you a contract to sign. When you return the signed contract, you will also have to make a 25% - 50% deposit on the reservation or you may have to make this deposit even before you receive the contract. There will also be a detailed questionnaire for you to complete so that the crew will be able to provide you with the vacation you are looking for. You will have to pay the balance of the cost of crewed yacht charters one month prior to your departure date. This way the only extra money you have to take with you is what you plan to spend while on vacation.

Booking A Cruise Vacation

May 5th, 2009

Cruises are the most versatile of vacations no matter what your age. Not only that, it's a great way to bring the whole family but still have time alone with your spouse while the kids-only activity coordinators take charge of your children's fun.

The first step to putting together a great cruise vacation is to find yourself a travel agency that specializes in cruises, or to book directly through a cruise vacation Internet site.

Before you contact the travel agent though you need to determine when you're going, where you're going and from which port you'll depart and to which you'll return.

There are some seasonal rules of thumb about your destination. If you're limited in the time of year you can get away then you're also somewhat limited in your destination. You can't, for instance, cruise the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska any time during the summer. Europe has about the same seasonal restriction as well. If you're planning on heading out in the spring or fall you might want to consider an excursion up and down the Panama Canal. Just about any time of year, including the winter, you can cruise to Asia or the Caribbean.

Determine who is going to go with you. Knowing if children or seniors will be a part of your vacation group will effect which trip offers the best choices of entertainment for your party. In fact, it's best to gather everyone together, or conduct a phone or e-mail discussion of what everyone wants to do. You need to know if crafts are important; how many are going to lounge by the pool; who wants to get off and explore at the first land stop; who prefers exotic locations and who'd rather just play shuffleboard.

The size of the ship can be important as well. Larger ships have a vast variety of entertainment options, such as dancing and stage shows, although smaller ships may provide a lower guest to staff ratio, and thus more personal attention to your needs.

Know how much you and the others can spend. If money is a critical factor look for discounts for booking early, or starting out on a different day or different week from your original request. Staying flexible can save you considerable money. Ask about port fees as well. These are not usually included in the quoted cruise cost and may cost you dearly. You'll also be expected to tip room stewards and wait staff.

If you're not going as a large group and you might be interested in getting to know your fellow passengers then be sure and inquire about the usual demographics of these travelers. If you're 20 something and it's a baby boomer cruise you're apt to be bored. If you bring your grade schoolers and most of the other kids are in their teens they won't have enough playmates and you'll be their entertainment for the extent of the cruise.

One very important inquiry to make of your travel agent as well is the formality of the cruise that you're considering. If you show up with a suitcase full of swimsuits, shorts and sunscreen only to find out formal dress is required at dinner you're going to be embarrassed or hungry the entire excursion.

Book A Cruise For Less

May 5th, 2009

So you've always wanted to take a dream cruise vacation. Maybe it's one of those things that wound up on the back burner, but you've started to believe that you just won't be able to save up the money to take yourself and the spouse, or the whole family, on such a trip. Think again.

The cruise industry is growing faster than ever, and with this huge expansion comes more opportunities to save money on special cruise deals. With more vacationers taking to the seas cruise lines are growing larger and can afford to offer special discounts to customers to get more people hooked on this luxury style of vacationing. Those looking for a cruise vacation can make a few smart decisions and save themselves a lot of cash without much sacrifice.

The first step is to look into theme packages. Many cruises offer special discounts for certain lifestyles or age groups. There may be a family discount, a golden years discount, or a honeymoon discount available. Depending on what type of cruise you want and who's going with you, this can be a huge money-saver if you're willing to accept what is offered in the packaged deal.

When it comes time to book your cruise, believe it or not, don't be too hasty. Many cruise lines receive unexpected cancellations at the last minute, and are eager to fill the empty slots. A would-be vacationer can often get extremely good deals if their schedule allows them to wait until the last minute to book. Call a cruise line days before a ship sets sail, and you might be pleasantly surprised by what you hear regarding discount rates for last-minute trips.

If you find a cruise line that you like, consider booking any future cruise vacations with the same line. Many cruise lines give discounts to repeat customers and you will probably receive a good percentage off your rate if you book a cruise at the same time each year with the same company. Talk to a travel agent who specializes in cruises. Often these agents can get you deals as well, especially with cruise lines they book often. By booking through an experienced travel agent you may earn the instant right to be a preferred customer.

Finally, do your research! There are many sites online for discount cruise fares, just as there are for airfares and other types of travel. Some websites specialize in locating cheap cruises for those who wish to vacation on a budget. Make use of a search engine, and don't get discouraged... your cheap cruise is out there somewhere. The trick is using resources and a little brain work to find it.

Boats, A List Of Do’s And Dont’s

May 5th, 2009

Doesn't the idea of a lovely three day sail in wonderful old boat sound nice? Here are a few things to think about before you sail away.

1. Do check the price. It may be possible to take an actual, fairly luxurious cruise instead of sailing on one of the oldest boats in America.

2. Do make sure you fully understand the size of your "room " on the boat. If you are hoping to have any romantic action in your cabin it would be good to know ahead of time that you and your partner each have a small bunk and these bunks are not on the same wall.

3. Do know ahead of time if you and your partner can both even stand up at the same time in your "room" on the boat. If the answer is "no" consider other options.

4. Don't leave without checking more than once to make sure you have Your luggage. Even though you carefully packed All the luggage, did Yours actually make it to the boat? If not you will have a fantastic time with no changes of clothing and nothing warmer than a sweatshirt. Don't leave without all your luggage!

5. Don't get on a boat where the crew is planning on having a lot of assistance from you and the rest of the paying customers. Like, for instance, doing your own dishes or pulling in ropes and such.

6. Don't think you will get everything outlined in the brochure. Will you ever go onto land during this excursion or will you just ride around and around on the boat being quite sure you've seen that same shoreline five times in three days. Do ask the boat crew if you will ever see any of the sea creatures promised and what about the island lobster bake?

7. Don't plan on real bathroom facilities and do ask where the shower is. Ha!!

8. Don't even think of taking this kind of boat trip if you don't like small spaces. Not only is the berth area minuscule, there is no other place to play games or cards except the galley, also tiny and often being used to fix the meals.

9. Do consider this boat trip if you enjoy working while on a very expensive vacation in the smallest accommodations imaginable while possibly seeing no sea life and not eating promised lobster!

These are some do's and don't of a boat trip I've actually taken.

Boat Shows

May 5th, 2009

Boat shows are great for new and experienced boaters alike
It doesn't matter if you were born on the water or if you just started lake boating(http://www.laketrash.com/) with your buddies, a boat show may just be the perfect, fun outing for you to go to. Boat shows are held all over the country, from Seattle to Chicago to Miami, and they include not only boats, but seminars, new product displays and more. If you are interested in seeing a boat show near you, ask your local lake officials where and when the nearest show is coming.
Here is what most boat shows cover:
About a gazillion boats: At it's core, a boat show is in fact a showing off of boats, meaning you can shuttle around the water checking out some of the most prestigious, shiny new boats from other boaters. The bigger boat shows could have upwards of a hundred or more boats while smaller shows may have 10 or 20 boats. The boaters that are displaying their boats often prepare for this event for some time before hand, to make sure their vehicle is clean and ready. If you want to have your boat displayed in a show, talk to the event hosts well in advance.
Seminars: Most boat shows also have seminars for different things relating to boats. Seminars may inform you of the best ways to clean certain parts of your boat or may include guest speaker appearances. The seminars are either held on a bigger boat docked on the water or on shore.
New product give-a ways: Retailers from the boating industry flock to boat shows. Since boaters navigate their way to boat shows when they are around, retailers find it the best place to sell boating equipment, parts and boating accessories (http://www.laketrash.com/3C119F89372941F1A467EF9DAD57D7DE.asp?cat_id=0B052D4A3D0D45F4BB3DB67DDEA8DE8A&pc_key=B1F9A71AB1134DE98D831F2BEE795006&retpage=%2Flaketrash%2Fvirtualweb%2F3C119F89372941F1A467EF9DAD57D7DE%2Easp&nm=Accessories&spath=Home%20%3E%20Accessories&path=Home%20%3E%20Accessories&ie_key=B0306BDCB4D1477E83F2D9B1F2083EBB). Many of these retailers do raffles, free product give-a-ways and more. If you are looking for equipment, a boat show is often a good place to go.
Boat shows are held all over the nation and are the place to be for interested boaters. Free entertainment, great boats, boating apparel (http://www.laketrash.com/0C1D040964844726A08A9CDE60F0F1FF.asp?ccb_key=23B84BB2F1674CC4A5BA2B6EDBF27571&ie_key=ABCC1F16F7C9467D958959F0ACEDA0CD), food and more are often available. It isn't uncommon for thousands of people to attend the boating events(http://www.laketrash.com/0C1D040964844726A08A9CDE60F0F1FF.asp?ccb_key=841FA32AFE2C4679823E16E8967AD205&ie_key=805EFDF90CD14A0EB8122E4F8680E238) . The shows bring together boaters with similar interests and sometimes last several days. Some of the bigger boat shows in the United States include: The Seattle Boat Show, the Fort Lauderdale International Show, and the Atlanta Boat Show.

Boat Charters

May 5th, 2009

Charter boats are an excellent way to get away from it all whilst on holiday. Whether you decide on a bareboat charter boat, where you don't have a crew to assist, or a crewed boat, there are many benefits of choosing a charter boat holiday.

A crewed boat is the better option if you are inexperienced, as it will allow you to enjoy the freedom of the seas without the worries of navigation and changes in the weather. Many of the crewed boats also supply a chef so you won't even have to worry about your meals.

There are many destinations throughout the world where you can charter a boat. What could be more romantic than a holiday on the seas of the Caribbean or the Mediterranean?

The are various types of charter boats, from floating hotels to the more budget boats where you are getting just the bare necessities.

For long durations on the seas it is essential to get a boat that has all the facilities to maintain a comfortable lifestyle for extended periods.

You would need a good kitchen with enough storage for all your food and cooking requirements.

This is where is might be wise to select a boat charter that has been organised by recommended charter business that knows what will be required on the holiday and preferably supply an experienced crew.

It is especially important to get an experienced crew if you are boating in unfamiliar waters.

Any decision for a charter boat holiday needs careful planning to ensure that it will be a holiday that will be remembered for a lifetime.

A well-planned holiday will ensure you will be sailing on smooth seas whether the weather gets rough or not.

The location that you decide to take your vacation will also have a bearing on the type of boat you charter, as there are both motorised and non-motorised (sailboats) to choose from.
